Death of a friend

This morning a friend of mine passed away.

He was diagnosed Leukemia 6 months ago,
but he must had it for at least 5 years.
Problem is that he had also diabetes, so we always thought his symptoms were due to diabetes.

Since he was living in an African country, where public health is almost non-existent, he had to go through a lot of private (extremely expensive) doctors and treatments paid entirely by myself.

I miss him, but his death was a relief, in the last 2 months he was suffering too much. Hes life has also been very difficult, lost his very prestigious job at 48, because of the dishonesty of some managers who saw in him a threat to their crimes and thefts... never found another...
His wife left him 2 years later (talk about being faithful.... to gold!)... and she left looting all the cash and investments, leaving him broke.

He was an extremely intelligent and cultivated man, but intelligence alone doesn't guarantee success in life... you must also have strategy and shrewdness, and good social skills. He was too naif and he was betrayed by many ruthless people.

I have cried a few times, I will cry more. But life must go on.

So...

Get away from that keyboard and find some time to visit or call a friend and ask him/her how his/her life is. Once your friends are gone, you will wish you had spent more time with them.
